Many people focus their cardio on outdoor activities or on the treadmill, which can become mundane for some. As the colder months of the year approach, hitting your cardio goals in the warmth of the gym can be very beneficial.

Circuits

Our circuits class is a fantastic way to hit your cardio goals. ‘Circuits’ refers to circuit training, which is a workout that moves you through a set of different exercises in short intervals. 

Circuit classes incorporate strength training, meaning you’ll be building up your muscles and in doing so, are more likely to avoid injury and improve your core strength. 

Circuits are great for your cardiovascular health as they involve a series of aerobic exercises, designed to increase your blood circulation and get your heart rate up. 

By doing this in a short class, you get a combination of a strength and aerobic workout in one go, in a fun environment, and will smash your cardio goals. James runs this class at Beckwith – check out his trainer profile here!

Step Conditioning Class

Another gym-based cardio favourite is step classes. Keep an eye on Beckwith’s class schedule to see when we are offering step classes.

Step is a form of aerobics, originating in the 1980s, that is hugely popular and an excellent way to hit your cardio goals. There are many benefits to step, one of which is it is an easier form of cardio and, thanks to the use of a small step instead of lots of jumps, it can be kinder on your joints.

Using a small step, the instructor will lead you through a series of choreographed moves that will work out your full body and get your heart pumping. You can also adjust the workout by adding weight or resistance bands, as you feel is best.

H.I.I.T.

HIIT refers to ‘High Intensity Interval Training’. HIIT generally involves short periods of intense activity followed by recovery periods. Because of this, it is known as one of the most time effective ways to exercise.

According to a study referenced by Healthline, you can burn 25-30% more calories in 30 minutes of HIIT compared to the same amount of time spent doing strength training, running, and biking.

HIIT classes also help your body to continue burning calories after you’ve finished exercising, as it increases your metabolism more than other forms of exercise. This is one of the main benefits of incorporating cardio into your regular workouts, and HIIT does this best.
