The festive period is a time for joy, celebration, and let’s be honest, a little indulgence. This can push your fitness goals to the side for some time. But staying active during the holidays doesn’t have to mean sacrificing fun or feeling guilty. The key thing is to find a balance which keeps you energised and feeling good while you enjoy time with friends and family.
How Often Should You Work Out?
Holidays are a great time to mix up your regular workout with other activities. This is especially helpful for those who are travelling during this time and can’t swing by Beckwith Health Club.
Aim for 3 to 4 workouts a week, including walking the dog, a quick home yoga session, or a fun game with the family. Driveway cricket, anyone?
Just remember: all movement counts. Even a small amount of light exercise will help you feel great and reduce stress.
Staying Active Without Skipping Family Time
You’re not going to lose out on your fitness goals by changing your routine for a week or two. But as we talked through in this blog, any time of activity will benefit your mental health.
Here are some great ways to stay active without compromising on holiday fun:
Go for a Walk After Meals
A brisk walk with your family or friends after a big dinner is a great way to get some fresh air and burn some calories. It’s also shown to help with digestion, and is perfect for catching up with everyone.
Organise a Family Sports Game
A little friendly competition never hurt anyone! If you can’t join Beckwith’s great classes, breaking a sweat this way is a close second. Try a game of touch rugby, a snowball fight (if you get lucky with snow!), or plan a scavenger hunt around the house.
Dance It Out
Turn on your favourite Christmas playlist and have a dance party! Great with your kids or after a few Christmas cocktails. Dancing is a fantastic way to boost your mood and get your heart pumping without you even noticing.
Do A Quick Online Workout
A 10-15 minute workout can fit right in between baking mince pies & wrapping gifts. YouTube is full of free workouts, and keep an eye out on Beckwith’s Instagram for new fitness challenges from our team!
Keep Calm – And Enjoy the Holidays!
You can have a great plan for a fit holiday, but sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. And that’s okay! The holidays are about enjoying time with friends and family, and not for stressing over missed workouts.
Happy holidays, and we’re looking forward to seeing you back at the gym after your time off!
