Health vs the Holidays

There’s so much going on over Christmas that it’s easy to forget things. Doing things in moderation. Brushing your teeth twice a day… even when and how to shave your chest, right guys? While you’re sharing Christmas memes with your family, preparing the big meal, and doing some last-minute shopping, your healthy lifestyle might take a hit! But, above everything else, your main focus can still be remembering to stay healthy!

Exercise and eating well should continue to be a priority at this time of year – the better you feel, the more fun you’ll have. And staying healthy becomes a lot easier when you’ve got a plan.

With that said, here are five great tips to help you stay healthy over Christmas.

Pay Close Attention to What You Eat and Drink

If ever there’s a time to indulge it’s during the holiday season. But that doesn’t mean you should be gorging on high fat, high sugar foods all the time. Or drinking copious amounts of alcohol every day. Focus on eating as clean and wholesome as you can for the majority of the time. Oh, and keep an eye on your hydration, too. Drink plenty of water!

Stick to Your Exercise Plan

You can modify it to fit in with your fun, but sticking to an exercise regime is vital to staying healthy. A really good tip is to get your workout, run or walk in first thing. Not only is it a great way to start the day, but you can tick it off and know you’ve achieved your goal!

Whatever time of day you choose to exercise, consistency is vital, so make it part of your daily routine throughout the festive season. Another top tip is to focus on full body workouts when you’re doing resistance training – for convenience and an additional calorie burn.

Get Enough Rest

You may well be used to being the man about town at Christmas, but this year is the perfect opportunity to dial it back. Getting enough sleep is key to staying healthy as it’ll give you all the energy you need to complete your workouts and still have fun. Why not have an early night or two? It might seem a little boring at the time, but your body really will thank you for it the next day.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

As we’ve already mentioned, there are some things that you can forget about, like fretting over a tidy house, shaving, etc. And many of them really aren’t that big of a deal!

But breakfast is something that you really shouldn’t neglect, however busy you get. It’s so important for energy and general wellbeing.

Start the day with a wholesome breakfast and not only will you have enough fuel to get you going, but you’ll also be far more likely to exercise and eat well during the rest of the day, too.
