Get to Know Step at Beckwith!

There’s always something exciting on the timetable at Beckwith and often taught by our lovely and expertly trained staff. One of our most popular classes is Step, which can sound confusing if you’ve never attended a class before!

Step classes are taught by our team and are a great way to break a sweat in a fun environment. Here’s some more information about “Step”, which will have you joining the next class in no time.

So, What Is It?

“Step” is short for “Step Aerobics”. Classes use a stationary block which you step up and down onto. This might not sound like it could have many benefits, but it’s the opposite.

The class is a high-intensity exercise using cardio and weight training to get your heart rate up and tone your muscles.

One of the great things about it is how it’s matched to a musical rhythm, making it a fun experience every time.

What Are the Benefits of Step?

The class gets both your heart and your lungs working at a high-intensity rate. Thanks to this, it’s great for improving your cardiovascular health. This’ll reduce your chances of developing a cardiovascular illness and improve your stamina.

It can burn as many calories as a fast run, but it’s classed as a low-impact exercise. This makes it much more accessible for those who don’t enjoy running or whose joints prevent them from being able to do so.

As you’ll be bearing your body weight and potentially some light dumbbells, the class is excellent for weight loss.

Lastly, Step has been shown to improve bone density as well as balance and mobility, as the exercise improves your legs’ ability to bear weight.

This is particularly important for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis.
