It’s Time: The Gyms Are Open Again!
At Beckwith Health Club we’ve been counting down the days until gyms were allowed to open again. Now that they have, we couldn’t be happier! And we know a lot of our members feel the same way.
The latest lockdown has been the longest yet – it’s normal to have adapted your workouts to a home setting rather than a gym one. If you’re unsure of how to re-adapt your fitness to the gym environment, not to worry. We’ve got you covered!
Check out our team’s four tips for getting your gym workouts back on track.
And if you’re interested, check out our top tips for getting back into fitness after a lockdown here!
Make the Most of Equipment & Machines
For most gym-goers, exercising away from the gym has meant losing access to a good deal of equipment. While some things, such as dumbbells, can be bought online, a gym’s equipment is typically much better quality than what most individuals can reasonably acquire. Especially when you take into account the space machines would take up in a house!
Now that the gyms are back, why not re-adjust your workouts? Make the most of weights and the machines. This could even be a great time to try something new, such as weightlifting, or running on a treadmill.
Make Some Noise!
For those who have spent some or all of the lockdown(s) living in an apartment, workouts have looked very different recently. When you live near other people, you have to be mindful of the disruption you might be creating for them while you exercise. Anything involving jumping is out of the window!
Great news: this is a thing of the past! Make the most of the gym environment to get back to the loud workouts you really love.
Get into your workout without worrying how much noise putting a kettlebell down will make. Another benefit that comes to mind is working out entirely on your schedule! No need to work around a flatmate or partner’s work calls. Excellent!
Got Your Gear?
As different as home workouts are to a gym environment, they do have the benefit of being extremely convenient. After several months of being away from the gym, you might need to readjust to life outside of your house.
Have you got your gym gear ready? Here are some points to consider as you head back to gyms:
Do your trainers fit properly and are they up to the appropriate training task? Check out this article on the importance of wearing the right shoes for the right exercise.
Have you got enough gym clothes? If you’re planning on hitting the gym a few times a week, you might not have time to keep up with the added laundry load. Make sure you’ve got the clothes you need to keep you going! For some tips on shopping for sustainable gym clothes, check out this article.
Lastly, what about a reusable water bottle or protein shaker? Staying hydrated is key to a productive workout. Make sure you’ve got one handy – you can refill your water bottles at Beckwith free of charge, of course!
Look Forward to Our Group Classes
In May, following the government’s guidelines, indoor fitness classes will be opening up again!
Gear up for this by reading our blog on the many benefits of attending group fitness classes here.
Classes are a great way to test out new workouts for yourself in a safe and supportive environment. They’re also ideal for working out with a friend or partner, and for providing structure to your day and exercise routine.
